at 3:20 AM, Sunday September 5, 2010 EDT There is a lot of discussion on this. Currently a player who is away and has the big blind, does not fold until someone raises. So if all other players forget to raise, the awayer can win. If a player who is away gets all in because of the blinds, he/she never folds either.
Some other players often lag out because of connection problems or bugs. They are handled the same way like players who were away the whole tourney. It would not be fair for those players to automatically fold just because they time out. Another argument is players who joined a tourney have paid the buy-in. So if they pay, they should be able to play. This of course is not true for freerolls. If someone is playing but checks or folds every single hand, you can also reach the final table. That no cards are visible on the table is a bug. |

at 7:06 AM, Monday September 6, 2010 EDT As far as i know the usual tournament rules are that antes and blinds will be taken from the stack of an absent player, but that his hands are dead. This is contrary to what happens at gpokr, where an absent player can win a hand if he is the big blind and nobody raises or when he is all in.
This is what sometimes causes a lucky absent player to end up at the final table. It would be good if Ryan changed this and hands of absent players were declared dead, but I don't think it very likely this change will happen very soon if ever :-) |
