Before there were cameras, camcorders, camera cell phones, polaroids, tape recorders, etc.; there was basically just heartbeats... people lifting heavy shit, throwing rocks and trying to eat and have either some horizontal or doggy mambo jambo. And, this was really for most of history up until recently... when you had a pre-potential-for-permanence culture, you only really had oral stories, some drawings, and later in some places written words... but there wasn't any recorded proof to verify even the written words.. ie. there weren't any videos or polaroids etc. So, that was def a different consciousness that ultimately did allow for crowd delusions (especially if drug-induced) and the potential root of religious parable etc.
