Trapping yourself

A good illustration is Kx suited as it is a hand that commonly traps itself.
For example, suppose your in a full ring and this hand plays out: You hold: Ks,5s Flop: Kd,Ts,9s Now the question is: how are you going to play this flop? Aggresively probably with top pair and all those outs. This hand has two things going for it: it's on the second best nut flush draw and it's also got top pair. This hand also has two things not going for it: it's on the second best nut flush draw and it's got top pair with a weak kicker. There's also the added bonus that if a Queen or Jack drops, it will quite possibly complete someone else's straight. What happens with a hand like this is that many players will be dragged into over calling this hand when action starts to develop on the table. They'll take one look at the two spades on the flop and decide that they want a piece of this. I'm not saying that this hand is unplayable but here's an idea of why to get out of this hand if action starts up: Your opponents: Player 1: As,Js Player 2: Qd,Jc Player 3: Kh,Th We see that these are all legitimate hands to see a flop. Player 1 has the nut flush draw and a nut inside straight draw. Player 2 has the made nut straight and has the draw to the best straight. Player 3 has two pair and has the draw to a full house. The point that I am trying to make here is not to keep thinking that your opponents have monsters, but to show that many times, your hand is already deader than dead and really has very few outs. Of course in gpokr you could all in with this safe in the knowledge that the turn will be 5h and the river will be 5d. |

I like to play these hands as we all do but i only like it when i am the agressor. You need to control this pot size and if nobody's folding then the pot is getting massive and it is masive for a reason. A little critism....you didn't even mention you could be outkicked as another way to be behind and player 2 is not drawing to the best straight, player 1 is. |
