Gpokr site branding

The debate over the minutiae of ethics and rules seems to miss the point that this site's branding is becoming blurred.
This has been a great place to come to learn the game, to compete with few restrictions and to socialise with people from around the world. We've even had lively competitions within my family and workgroup. You had the makings of a relevant and attractive positioning there. Now you seem to want to make this another vanilla poker site, with no compelling differentiation. The " one man , one vote ,once" fundamentalist brigade is influencing your thinking far too much. I'd like to see a statement of intent for the site rather than rules per se....position it as a learning site, extoll the benefits, maybe then suggest the behaviours that support the intent. Change Moderators into "Advisors", doing more of what Jules does ( sure they can still get rid of porn and abuse) Prioritise your site upgrades to support the positioning: for example the old hand analysis in personal stats is a great learning tool: national flags support the sense of community, as does sit and go. The new technical platform was a big step forward. The next step forward should be a well communicated positioning, not a patchwork of ethics statements or new rules. |

at 10:57 PM, Monday February 28, 2011 EST Maybe implement a ranking by hand average and have tables that can only by accessed by people with a hand average > 100 or some other number. This will limit these table to the more serious players and the ones who all in and refill will never get there.

at 11:12 AM, Wednesday March 2, 2011 EST This site would benefit from a extensive overhaul.
Players should have the ability to show one or both of their cards at the end of a hand. More importantly, you should be able to muck a losing hand if you make the call in position at showdown. Being FORCED to reveal losing hole cards is ridiculous, not in the spirit of the game and against the rules. Bringing back hand analysis would be really good. It's very helpful to see where you're losing the most. It helps you to plug the leaks in your game. The sit n go tables were underpopulated but still a good feature. I can't imagine why they were dropped. I'd also like to see 6 seater and heads-up tables. 6 max is my favourite format. The action is faster, you get to play more hands and there are less players to track. ALL poker sites offer 6 seaters. I've heard the cheating arguments about heads up tables but quite frankly cheaters will cheat anyway and heads-up play is a fast and exciting format. ALL poker sites offer heads-up tables. Many players like tournaments. I see no reason why tournaments shouldn't run permanently like every hour or so. The blinds are still broken. It's still possible to sit in at the cost of a small blind. It's also possible to pay more than one big blind per orbit because new players sit, this sucks and is against the rules. I used to argue that the RNG wasn't rigged. I still don't think it's rigged in any players favour but it does seems broken. Flopping 2 pair is usually a disaster and flopping the 2nd nut straight invariable loses to a higher straight or a flush. The Omaha variants of Hold'em are a great games and are increasingly popular in online poker rooms, it would be nice to see PLO introduced here. GPOKR was where I learned to play the wonderful game of Hold'em. It allowed me develop an understanding of the basics of the game and build on that before moving on to play cash. After about a year and a half of playing cash I now consider myself a winning and improving player at 5/10, 10/25 & 25/50 6 max and $5 - $20 double thru sit and go. I am eternally grateful to gpokr for getting me started and allowing me to learn at no cost. However, the site seems to be the subject of wanton neglect by the owners and is in need of a major overhaul. It would be nice to see some improvements but I'm not holding my breath. |
