at 8:37 AM, Thursday August 11, 2011 EDT i dont think i ever called into question whether mods are partial to their friends, i really dont think that is the case in gpokr (nor really in kdice either any more).
sorry, i was under the impression that mer was joking about this claim because it was such a puny offense, not because it was obv a fake made up story. my bad if i misinterpreted there. sry mer. and congrats to shed for somehow making the $100 in the final 45 seconds before the tourney started. in my experience i can hardly ever go find a new table, sit in the new table, find an opponent, start a new hand, get the opponent to at least lose $100, have the hand finish without showdown, then register for a tourney within that short of a time. shed truly ran into some great luck there (rolls eyes). sadly, the luck didnt last in the tourney, and she didnt make the payouts. i guess what im saying here, is when i consider the evidence presented (this post + the fact that shed made the tourney), theres only ?2? options: 1) Magic Roundabout has such a grudge against these two that he would premeditate a nefarious plan to create a fake chatlog that looks pretty believable, then post it in forums. 2) the chatlog can be trusted, and the tiny tiny chipdump happened quick enough to get shed in the tourney. to me, the second choice is way more believable than the first. i would of course want mer/shed to have a chance to give their side of the story before meting out punishment. anyways, this is why i proposed in kdice that the forum NOT be allowed for ban requests. it creates too much drama. instead, set up a mod email distribution list that people can send their ban requests to. then the mods can act on those if they see merit, and the community loses its chance to bitch at each other and call each other names. makes for a better community. this idea isnt my creation; it's something that the poker forum 2+2 uses, and works quite well. |

at 8:42 AM, Thursday August 11, 2011 EDT well another option would be that all along shed had sufficient funds to join the tourney, and that explains why she was in it.
... nevermind. just looked up her stats for august 9th, and her max money that day was... wait for it... $9,922. since we all know that Ryans max money lags by one hand, its obv that she had $9,922 (strikingly the exact number that magic reported in this post), then won a single hand for an unknown amount that was enough to qualify her for the tourney. so, yes, what im saying here, is that in this specific case, i think there IS enough evidence to show that the offense occurred, despite whether or not the accused denies the claim. i would say this goes beyond doubt. now im not saying you should megaban shed for this. hell, i dont even know if you should slap her on the wrist with a warning. but i think its a hollow argument to say theres not enough evidence to show this is a faked accusation. |

at 11:29 AM, Thursday August 11, 2011 EDT Besides, the point is...still...we do not know if merhoops in fact did give the shed $100, $200, $300 or whatever. Could have been anyone that played at the table and lost to the shed, right? There could have been 2, 3, or other players at the table that they moved too (if they moved to the same table).
The shed could have won the hand fair and square, bet $100, check it out and she won! That is the entire point...we do not know what happened. All of it is assumptions. We (advisors) should never ban someone based solely off of assumptions. Plain and simple, there was not enough to prove that a violation of the rules occurred. I reviewed their stats, but too much had happened afterwards and I could not tell if they did play at the same table or not. |

at 1:21 PM, Thursday August 11, 2011 EDT yeah, agreed about mer. thats why i backed off of him, since theres no way i can look at his stats and see anything. but as far as shed is concerned, i have a hard time believing that in 45 seconds she could change tables to a new table that had just finished a previous hand, start a new hand, and get $100 of value, then leave seat and join tourney. thats quite a stretch to me.
anyways, im also assuming that the mods went through the obv first step of finding shed/mer and asking them if the minichipdump happened. i honestly dont think they would deny it if it happened because, lol, its so small. anyways, i still think its fun to think through this situation and discuss the possibilities. and i still would much rather accusations be carried out via a mod email distribution list so that people dont make unfair conclusions about mer/shed/magicR (in this case). |

at 1:34 PM, Thursday August 11, 2011 EDT Yes Monte, I see your point of the limited time. But to say yes, this was cheating, is too much of a stretch to do anything about. It really could have been, bet $100 (or other amount) and checking it out....let the best hand win kinda thing, which is not cheating/loaning.
The advisors have a forum that we use to discuss issues. It would be nice to have a system set up so players can report violations without the general gpokr community knowing about it, but we deal with what we have. ;) |

at 1:46 PM, Thursday August 11, 2011 EDT its not too hard to construct a system like that without Ryan having to code anything. i was telling jurgen that if Ryan ever okays me as a mod, i would set up some email dist lists which automatically forward incoming mail to all of the mods email accts, and then they can reply all to each other and discuss who is modding what and why, etc...
the one thing that would be nice of Ryan to code in would be a sticky post at the top of the forum that is titled something like: "Sticky: things that will get you forum-banned" then no one would have the excuse that they didnt realize that ban requests are not allowed in forums. |
