I'd like to see an expanded package of player and game stats. Computer games lend themselves so enticingly to numerical analysis. A simple metric would be to take the total score and divide by the number of games played, giving the average point gain per game. That's a useful number, perhaps more relevant than the raw score (although it does not take into account whether the balance of those games were played at 10 tables or 1K tables). The ratio of a player's top-2 finishes to bottom-2 finishes is also instructive. And it's at least theoretically possible to generate weighted strength-of-opposition scores that take into account the skill (based on rank or points) of a player's adversaries, similar to the BCS system in college football. Then there's just statistical curiosities: Which color wins most often? Which color loses the most? Does having a 5-stack at the beginning give one a statistical advantage over a start with only 4-stacks or less? Based on aggregated results, is it preferable to start with five territories or four? |
