I agree with Bighall's comment. This site is the MOST FUN I've ever had on the internet...even more fun than watching Americans squirm at the thought of electing a black president.

at 8:21 AM, Sunday June 15, 2008 EDT Gummo, I want a world where we don't end up at the brink of war because of the failed domestic (not international) policies of our government. We don't need a Democrat like Obama or a Republican like McCain. I'm only for McCain because he represents the least amount of change economically. If our government gains access to, or control over any more of the economy than it already has the average person will see 75-80% of his income going to taxes instead of 40-50% (sales tax, income tax, gas tax, ...etc.). I was in California in the 90's when the Democratic government of the state convinced voters that a huge gas tax was needed to build and repair the roads (I was a lone voice in the wilderness). California now has the highest gasoline prices in the United States now by more than 12%. The roads are still in disrepair because the money was funneled off to pay for the debt that the same Democratically controlled government had created to give education to illegal aliens, free medical, bilingual teachers, and the list goes on and on. What part of illegal don't they understand. My point is that Obama has extreme liberal ideas that will penalize an average hard-working american and saddle them with the burden of taking care of millions of illegal and undocumented people as well as millions of uninsured and unemployed people within the United States, and at the same time those same hard working americans will see less and less in the way of critical services because the flow of dollars can only go so far. The net result is that you throw the baby out with the bath water. The government gets bigger instead of smaller. Taxes go up to the stratosphere and services reduce to a minimum to help pay the never reducing bill that they would saddle the american people with. I'm not a McCain lover, I love america and I don't want to intentionally vote for a president that wants to put forth economic changes at a time when our economy is in disarray and in retreat. The less social change the better is all I'm advocating and Obama doesn't represent that.

at 8:56 AM, Sunday June 15, 2008 EDT Rob I'm an Australian so I'm sorry if challenging your observations of your native country seems a little presumptuous but surely the economic policies at play in the US at the moment are failing. America is in or at best on the brink of recession. What with the sub-prime mortgage crisis, the spiraling cost of the war and ineffectual and indecisive government policy it doesn't look like improving anytime soon. Surely a fresh approach is needed. The classic conservative policy of government stepping aside to let business lead the way is not a a recession policy that will work. Its in dire economic times that you need government to step in and legislate.
The saving grace for us foreigners is whereas 10 years ago the US slipping into recession would of automatically meant we followed today its different. THe US is still a huge trading partner but now the Asia region (especially China) is way more significant. That being said the sub prime crisis has had a significant effect on our banks and a suffering banking system has wide ranging effects on the economy in general. |

at 9:02 AM, Sunday June 15, 2008 EDT Final thought... I am not a heartless unconcerned individual. I want changes that will foster and improve the lot of the uninsured and unemployed in the United States. But the changes I want don't involve a giant hand out, they involve a workfare system that allows people in need access to programs that will help them to earn the coverages they need. I would like to see comprehensive policing of our borders to stem the flow of illegal immagration and I would like to see amnesty for all those that are already illegally in this country once that is done. In essence turn off the tap, then grant citizenship. I would like to see the amnesty granted only if the people involved learn to speak english, the language of the United States. I don't want the average american to pay to support people that are able bodied. We need less government not more. I don't see anywhere in history where a Democrat or Republican has ever done that. As I stated earlier the problem in our world is that most governments are run by career politicians. They are largely at the top end of income in whatever country they control. They have no understanding of the plight of the average person, and most don't care. Obama isn't the answer, McCain isn't the answer. However, I still feel that McCain is the lesser of two evils in this case, and trying to keep the status quo long enough to find a way to promote real changes will ultimately benefit the average person in whatever country they reside in. I'm a swing voter because I can't find much of a difference between the parties that rule in the U.S. I vote for whoever I think will steal the least from me. Oh well.....another year where I have to hold my nose while voting......sigh!

at 11:17 AM, Sunday June 15, 2008 EDT Right now this country has the WORST president that we have ever had in the history of America. President Bush. I have no clue why we voted him in. Only once though, because Gore won the first time. But anyway... I refuse to vote for a president, that the worst president, endorses. President Bush has already come out in favor of McCain, why is that? Is it possibly because they are so much a like? Not exactly alike, but most of their policy is. I refuse.
